About Ilaisa Design
The story of ID Architecture is rooted in a passion for designing spaces that enrich the lives of those who inhabit them.
Our Story
Founded by Ilaisa Tabukovu, a seasoned architectural professional with over 10 years of industry experience, our company has grown from humble beginnings into a thriving business that serves clients across the South Island.
Ilaisa’s journey in the architectural industry began with sole-trading work and expanded to include stints at larger architectural companies. In 2018, he established his own company with partners in North Canterbury, focusing on residential architectural design. In 2021, Ilaisa decided to bring his focus back to his family and permanently relocate his new business to Selwyn. Here, ID Architecture was born.
Our team grew quickly, with our first junior designer, Olivia, joining us from the beginning and developing her skills alongside our growing business. Mika, our second junior designer, was brought onto the team and is developing his career while completing his studies in Architecture. Melanie was welcomed in as the office manager, and Romeo completed the team as Senior Architectural Technician. Underlying the company’s growth and success are Ilaisa’s family values of commitment, respect and pride. His wife, Nichola, manages marketing and his sister, Semaema, runs the accounts.
New Digs
After running out of home office space, ID Architecture has since moved into a purpose-built office where we continue to serve our clients with passion and dedication. We’re proud of our diversity too: we have Fijian, English, South African, Samoan, Filipino, and New Zealand nationalities all represented in our office.
New Connections
We’ve also formed connections with similar architectural companies to complete projects on their behalf during busy times, providing support within our industry during difficult times, such as during the COVID-19 lockdowns which greatly impacted the construction industry.

In the last two years, we have since completed projects across the South Island, and we look forward to continuing our mission of designing inspiring spaces for our clients. We provide referrals to surveyors, engineers, and geotechnical contractors once you’ve received your plans. Our team can also assist you with pricing plans to the bank and even apply for building consent or resource consent on your behalf. We do everything we can to make your experience and project with us as hassle-free as possible.

Ilaisa is a seasoned architectural professional with extensive experience in the industry. As senior architectural designer and owner of ID Architecture, he plays a critical role in the company’s success and growth.
Melanie Meiring
Melanie is an experienced Office Manager who brings a wealth of administrative, project management, and business analytics experience to ID Architecture.
Mika Sapi
A committed draftsman, Mika enjoys working on the detailed working drawings, as well as supporting documents and submitting them to councils.
Semaema Salele
Semaema is a dedicated Accounts Manager at Ilaisa Design Architecture (ID) who excels in managing financial tasks while overseeing office operations.
Saiyan Leonardo
Saiyan values teamwork and independence. He’s reliable, creative, and open to self-development, benefiting from Ilaisa’s mentorship for skill enhancement.
Nichola Tabukovu
Nichola manages our marketing and communications. As well as managing Human Resources in-house, she also organises photography and blog posts for our projects.
